2019 Earth Day Roadside Clean Up
April 20th, 2019, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Backus Woods Block - North Access, Ontario
Infrastructure / Site Cleanup
Garbage, such as bottles, balloons and grocery bags, accumulates along roadways every year and can pose a threat to plants and animals that call Backus Woods their home.
Join NCC staff for a roadside clean up to collect a winter’s worth of garbage along Highway 24. Following the clean up, NCC staff will lead a property tour where you can learn about the unique species that make up the Carolinian Canada Life Zone.
Carpooling: If you’re interested in carpooling with other volunteers (driving, or catching a ride) please click here and add your car or join a car. There’s also a wait list feature if there’s no car listed yet where you’re traveling from. Happy travels!
Please email the event contact to join the waiting list.
Backus Woods is a spectacular gem in the heart of Carolinian Canada. Comprising less than 1% of Canada’s land mass, Carolinian Canada is home to 25% of Canada’s population, contains some of Canada’s most productive agricultural lands and provides habitat for nearly 25% of Canada’s endangered species. What you will be doing
You will join NCC staff to walk leisurely along the perimeter of Backus Woods and other Backus Block properties along Highway 24 and East Quarterline Road to pick up litter. Physical activity will include walking over flat terrain and bending. Why you will love it
While seemingly unglamourous, garbage removal is a top priority for NCC and the immediate results of this work is rewarding. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to learn about unique Carolinian Canada species such as the Tulip tree, American badger and others.Questions?
