More Information

About Cheakamus Centre, Brackendale

The Cheakamus Centre has held a conservation covenant with NCC since 1997, which protects 420 acres (170 hectares) of lush coastal forest, spawning habitat for thousands of Pacific salmon, and some of the oldest western redcedars in BC. The Cheakamus Centre also serves as an educational facility in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, providing leadership and environmental learning opportunities for thousands of youth adults each year.

What you will be doing

Volunteers will be helping with the ongoing trail maintenance efforts on the reserve. We will be pruning, trimming, and raking to keep trails clear of debris, as well as laying wood chips. We’ll also take time to explore the wonders of the Cheakamus Centre, learn about their salmon habitat enhancement projects, and visit the farm animals!

Why you will love it

Contribute to the ongoing stewardship efforts required to maintain this ecologically significant area. Trail maintenance is an important part of stewardship, since it limits the human-impacts to other sensitive areas in the understory. This is also a great opportunity to access this beautiful area, since it is not typically open to the public.
