The Nature Conservancy of Canada is conducting a mycological inventory of the Darkwoods Conservation Area, and we are looking for your help searching for mushrooms. Mushroom experts will be on hand to talk about mushroom collection and identification, and to help identify any mushrooms you find. Bring rain gear, a collection basket, and your curiosity.

Encompassing 630 square kilometres, Darkwoods’ size IS its significance. Located in the rugged South Selkirk mountain range, Darkwoods secures vital habitat for large mammals such as grizzly bear, wolverine, moose, elk and deer. The property’s extensive network of rivers and lakes helps to protect water quality in the region, and supports a plethora of birds, fish, insects, amphibians and reptiles.What you will be doing
You will be searching for mushrooms in the forests and wetlands of Darkwoods, next to the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area. You will learn how to identify and properly collect and photograph mushrooms while contributing to a mycological research project.Why you will love it

We will be travelling on steep and uneven terrain. A moderate level of fitness and good footwear are required.

While we do our best to provide you with the tools you need to participate, please bring the following items if you have them:
- Rain gear
- Sturdy shoes or hiking boots, Layers of clothing
- Basket or container for collecting mushrooms
