Happy Valley Forest, Schomberg, Ontario
Habitat Restoration
Come help us rid Happy Valley Forest of a nasty invader, garlic mustard! Garlic mustard is an invasive plant that can quickly out-compete native plants. One of the best methods to control this species is persistent pulling. Spend the day enjoying the beauty of this mature forest, and reward yourself with a snack of tasty homemade garlic mustard pesto!

More Information
Happy Valley Forest is one of the largest remaining tracts of upland deciduous forest on the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is located about one hour northwest of Toronto. This 1560-acre (631 hectare) area supports more than 110 breeding birds, including wood thrush and Canada warbler, and is an outstanding example of mature sugar maple and beech upland forests, characteristic of the moraine.
What you will be doingYou will control garlic mustard, an invasive plant species that has become well established throughout southern Ontario. We will teach you how to identify garlic mustard and then we will hand pull the plants. Physical activity will involve hiking in hilly terrain, bending and crouching.
Why you will love itYou will be spending the day in a beautiful mature deciduous forest surrounded by towering trees, a spectacular trillium display and spring birdsong. Your stewardship efforts will help to keep the forest healthy and thriving with native species.
