Garry Oak Meadow Marathon Finale
February 28th, 2018, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve, British Columbia
Join us for the Garry Oak Meadow Marathon finale! This is the last event from a series of events that is taking place across Greater Victoria throughout February. Come celebrate the month’s efforts and take part in the ongoing restoration efforts at the Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve in Duncan.
The Preserve offers a very special location to wrap up the Meadow Marathon as it is one of the largest and most significant remnants of deep soil Garry oak sites left on the island.

The Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve is the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s flagship property in the Cowichan Valley. This 52-acre (21-hectare) preserve is one the last best examples of deep soil Garry oak ecosystem left in Canada. The meadow and woodland portion of the preserve features centuries-old Garry oak trees towering over grassy meadows full of native wildflowers. Dozens of rare and at-risk species thrive here, including many types of bees and butterflies, delicate flowers and small woodland animals. What you will be doing
Volunteers will help with pulling invasives, working in the native plant nursery and planting seedlings. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the restoration techniques that have significantly restored the meadows on the preserve, and the ongoing academic studies and research taking place on the property that are helping to improve restoration success on this site and others across North America. Why you will love it
Celebrate the efforts of the first ever Garry Oak Meadow Marathon! Prizes will be drawn for all volunteers who came to three or more events from the Meadow Marathon at three different site.Questions?
