About Grand Codroy Estuary Nature Reserve (Doyles)

The Grand Codroy River gathers water from the Long Range and Anguille mountains in the southwest corner of Newfoundland, meandering downstream until it reaches an estuary like nowhere else in the region. This 243 hectare (601 ac.) property features a moderate climate, protected shores, rolling cultivated grasslands and lush balsam fir forests, providing habitat to species like moose, green frog, American beaver, and the endangered piping plover. It is the only Ramsar site in the province, includes two Important Bird Areas, and offers an educational interpretative centre and hiking trails for all to enjoy.

What you will be doing

We will be re-planting a natural buffer between the estuary and an agricultural field, which will help stabilize the banks and filter water running into the river. As the trees grow, they will become additional habitat for the diversity of bird life in the area.

Why you will love it

This event is an opportunity to meet fellow nature lovers and help support the thriving biodiversity in the Codroy Valley. By the end of the day, we will be able to see the difference that our hands-on work has made and, over the years, we will watch these results grow!
