Ferrier (Big Valley), Alberta
Infrastructure / Site Cleanup

Join the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) for a day of hands-on conservation in the heart of Alberta’s parkland! Within this highly modified landscape, the Ferrier conservation property is part of the last 5% of intact parkland habitat remaining today. Ferrier is home to a plethora of wild creatures, including moose, deer and badger.

By lending your support to this project, you will help ensure that wildlife are able to roam the landscape freely.

Get outside with us and enjoy a day contributing to the health of the last remaining intact parkland habitat! Free bus transportation from the Repsol office and lunch are provided.

About Ferrier (Big Valley)

The Ferrier property was graciously left to NCC in Nancy Ferrier’s will. In January 2017, thanks to the generous support of public and private donors, NCC was able to officially complete the securement project.

On the northwestern shore of Gough lake, lies 1,467 acres (594 ha.) of native grasslands, forests and wetlands. These diverse conditions attract a wide range of species, including prairie loggerhead shrike, western tiger salamander and porcupine.

NCC acquired the Ferrier property with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.

What you will be doing

Wherever possible NCC works to remove any unneeded infrastructure from the landscape to reduce barriers and hazards to wildlife. By taking part in this event, you can give the newly conserved Ferrier property a helping hand by removing sections of wooden corrals and fencing.

Why you will love it

During lunch you’ll have the opportunity to learn about some of the mammals, birds and plants that call the area home, hear more about NCC’s conservation work, and see first hand a property that Repsol helped to protect.
