The Southern Norfolk Sand Plain Natural Area is within the Carolinian Canada Life Zone and supports many rare habitats, including Carolinian forest, Provincially Significant Wetlands, long stretches of ravines and floodplains, and globally rare coastal dunes and sand beaches. This zone provides habitat for 25% of Canada’s endangered species including the Hooded warbler, Cerulean warbler, Blanding’s turtle, Kentucky coffee tree and American badger. What you will be doing
Participants will be using loppers and hand saws to remove lower tree branches and small trees, so that NCC staff or other participants can cut them down. Brush piles will be created using cut limbs and trees. If participants have chainsaw safety certification and all required safety equipment (i.e. safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, safety chaps, helmet with ear/eye protection) they can co-ordinate with NCC staff to assist with cutting down larger trees in the hedgerow. Why you will love it
