About Graham Property (Wingham)

This 30.5 hectare (75 ac.) property lies on the east side of the upper Maitland River, about 15 km southwest of Wingham. Made up of mixed forests, meadow wetlands and the Maitland River Valley (a 150 km long corridor that provides connected habitat for both plants and animals along the river), the area provides habitat for species such as the eastern wood-pewee, western chorus frog and the endangered monarch butterfly.

What you will be doing

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help NCC remove invasive Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera) from the banks of the Maitland River. Your mode of attack will include clipping and pulling. No previous experience is required, but ninja skills are useful as the seed pods can explode when disturbed, scattering the seeds up to seven meters!

Why you will love it

What could be more satisfying than spending the day beside the beautiful Maitland River as you work to protect the native species calling it’s shoreline home? By the end of the day we’ll see the difference we’ve made!
