Event Details
October 5th, 2019, 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Midgeley Conservation Area, British Columbia
Inventories and Monitoring
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is calling on citizen scientists of all ages to help conduct a mycological (mushroom) inventory of the Midgeley Conservation Area (on the west side of the Creston Valley). This event will be lead by mushroom experts, who will show us best practices for mushroom collection and identification, and will help identify any mushrooms you find. Bring rain gear, a collection basket, and your curiosity.
We will meet up at the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area and then drive into Midgeley together.

More Information
The Midgeley Consevation Area protects 65 hectares (162 acres) of Douglas-fir forest and overlooks the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area. Grizzly bears travel through this property as they descend from the mountains and prepare to cross through the valley bottom lands. Protected in 2013, Midgeley is part of the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s work to secure wildlife corridors in southeastern British Columbia.
What you will be doingYou will be searching for mushrooms in the forests and wetlands of the Midgeley Conservation Area, overlooking the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area. You will learn how to identify and properly collect and photograph mushrooms, while contributing to a mycological research project.
Why you will love itThe thrill of discovery and learning. You will learn about mushrooms in the Creston Valley and experience the thrill of finding new mushrooms. If we are lucky, and you are feeling adventurous, participants may get to taste a few edible mushrooms (fried in garlic and butter).
