Get ready to roll! Take a journey down to the scenic Sandstone Ranch and lend a hand reducing barriers to wildlife movement in the grasslands. Together we will remove a stretch of old barbed wire fence on the property and soak in the pristine sights of this unique area.

This 4,764 acre (1,928 ha.) property is located approximately 10 km northwest of Del Bonita, in the Milk River Ridge area of southern Alberta. This stunning piece of native grassland provides habitat to to mule deer, Sprague’s pipit, and the endangered ferruginous hawk and swift fox. NCC and its partners have worked hard to conserve this piece of Alberta’s ranching heritage for over 10 years.
NCC acquired the Sandstone Ranch property with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
What you will be doingYou'll be guided through the process of removing of an old barbed wire fence from the Ranch. No experience necessary, all tools and safety gear will be provided!
Why you will love itYou'll have the opportunity to explore this stunning ranch, enjoy some good company and maybe even see a Prairie Falcon or two! This piece of intact fescue grassland contains many unique natural and archaeological features that you will not want to miss.

All tools and equipment will be provided, along with snacks and drinks. We ask however, that you please bring a lunch with you for the day. Additional information, including maps and driving directions, will be sent to you after you have registered for the event.
Event will proceed rain or shine.
While we do our best to provide you with the tools you need to participate, please bring the following items if you have them:
- Sturdy closed-toe shoes
- Long shirt
- Sun hat
- Long pants
- Layers (light sweater and jacket)
- Rain gear (just in case)
- Backpack
- 1 litre of water in a reusable bottle
- Lunch
- Any necessary medications
