Get ready to roll! Take a journey down to the scenic Sandstone Ranch and lend a hand reducing barriers to wildlife movement in the grasslands. Together we will remove a stretch of old barbed wire fence on the property and soak in the pristine sights of this unique area.

About Sandstone Ranch, Del Bonita

This 4,200 acre (1,684-hectare) property is located approximately ten kilometres northwest of Del Bonita, in the Milk River Ridge area of southern Alberta. This stunning piece of native grassland provides habitat to mule deer, sharp-tailed grouse, raptors, many grassland birds, as well as a variety of shorebirds along the Milk River which runs through the Ranch.

NCC acquired the Sandstone Ranch property with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.

What you will be doing

You'll be guided through the process of removing of an old barbed wire fence from the Ranch. No experience necessary, all tools and safety gear will be provided!

Why you will love it

You'll have the opportunity to explore this stunning ranch, enjoy some good company and maybe even see a Prairie Falcon or two! This piece of intact fescue grassland contains many unique natural and archaeological features that you will not want to miss.

Please Note

All tools and equipment will be provided, along with snacks and drinks. We ask however, that you please bring a lunch with you for the day. Additional information, including maps and driving directions, will be sent to you after you have registered for the event.
Event will proceed rain or shine.

  • 1 litre of water in a reusable bottle
