Rooting for Conservation

Event Details

May 16th, 2018, 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

MacMillan Nature Reserve, Ontario
Habitat Restoration

Join us in “rooting” for conservation by planting native trees this spring on one of our more urban properties in Vaughn! These trees will contribute to increasing forest cover in the region, protecting the Don River watershed through soil stabilization and water retention, and providing habitat for wildlife.

Carpooling: If you’re interested in carpooling with other volunteers (driving, or catching a ride) please click here and add your car, or join a car. There’s also a wait list feature if there’s no car listed yet where you’re traveling from. Happy travels!

Please email the event contact to join the waiting list.

About MacMillan Nature Reserve

The MacMillan Nature Reserve is one of the larger natural open spaces remaining on the southern section of the Oak Ridges Moraine in York Region and within a rapidly urbanizing area of Vaughan. It is a mix of forest, streams and agricultural lands on a gently sloping topography. The streams running through the MacMillan Nature Reserve are headwater tributaries of the Don River.

What you will be doing

At this event, you will be planting native trees in an open and recently disturbed area of the property. Physical activity will likely involve walking, bending and digging using shovels.

Why you will love it

You will love this because you will be spending time in one of the larger protected areas in Vaughn. Your stewardship efforts will contribute to protecting the Don River watershed and increasing forest cover in the region.
