The Hudgin-Rose property, located on Ostrander Point, is part of the wild Prince Edward County south shore which provides important stopover and staging habitat for migratory bird species. It features a mix of alvar, woodland and wetland communities and hosts a mix of sensitive species including Blanding’s turtles, eastern whip-poor-will and monarch butterflies. What you will be doing
You will help NCC staff with a combination of hand-pulling and hand-cutting invasive shrubs like buckthorn, lilac and honeysuckle, to ensure that the native plants and birds continue to flourish at Ostrander Point. This will involve bending and pulling motions, as well as a short 1 km hike from the parking area to the event site. The hike will mostly be on a well-defined trail, but volunteers may encounter slightly inclined gradients, and moderately uneven terrain. Why you will love it
You will spend the day on the wild coast of Prince Edward County pulling and cutting invasive shrubs to ensure native plants are able to thrive in the area. You will get a personal tour of some of the property and a chance to look at the historic Moses Hudgin log home.Questions?
