SOS Sage-grouse

Event Details

August 10th, 2016, 11:45 AM - 1:30 PM

Nature Conservancy of Canada Calgary Office, Alberta
Infrastructure / Site Cleanup

Join us at our Calgary office over the lunch hour and lend your support to sage-grouse conservation in Canada’s grasslands!

In 2015 & 2016, volunteers created 11,000 visibility clips for fences. These clips can be applied to fence lines in greater sage-grouse habitat to help improve the visibility of the wires and reduce potential collisions. Greater sage-grouse are listed as critically endangered, and studies have found that these clips can reduce grouse collisions with fences by 70-80% when installed in critical habitat, such as leks.

These clips created by volunteers are scheduled to be sent to Saskatchewan on August 12 so they can be installed at Old Man on His Back Conservation Area and other conservation sites, but one step remains before they are ready to go. Strips of reflective tape need to be installed on the clips, as it helps them stand out visually to wildlife against grass and snow.

Bring your friends and family down to this event and learn more about this iconic grassland bird, while contributing directly to conservation work on the ground.

Please email the event contact to join the waiting list.
