Suss out at Susut
May 17th, 2018, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Infrastructure / Site Cleanup
This small but important project needs your helping hand. Join us as we venture out to the Susut Conservation Easement. Participants will get to hear about the property history from the landowner of this ecologically significant property while lending her a helping hand to remove some remnant barbed wire. Once completed, participants will have the chance to go on a guided hike of the property, recording all species observations in a mini bio-blitz!
We will be using the iNaturalist app. Learn more about this and download it for yourself by following this link.
If you’d like to carpool to the event, please click here, to add your car or join a ride going to the event. Happy carpooling!

In 2005, a conservation easement on the Susut property was donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Since then, the landowner and NCC have worked together to ensure that this environmentally significant area remains intact. The Susut property consists of 160 acres, and NCC owns an additional 160 acres to the north. Together, these properties contain important wetland and deciduous forest habitat, providing refuge for a variety of species. In addition, a number of key wildlife areas are in the proximity of the Susut property, such as Crestomere Slough, Battle River, Brook Creek, and Gull Lake. What you will be doing
Participants will be helping the landowner of this conservation easement by removing a section of unnecessary wire that poses a risk to passing wildlife. Why you will love it
Participants will be treated to the first hand property history by the landowner herself, as well as a guided tour of this property and a mini bio-blitz!Questions?
