Connop property, Turner Valley, Alberta
Infrastructure / Site Cleanup
Bring things back down to earth with NCC, tearing out derelict infrastructure and restoring a conserved landscape to its natural state! In the beautiful foothills of Alberta, where the rolling grasslands meet the Rocky Mountains, we will work to reduce barriers to wildlife movement by removing an old corral system on our Connop Turner Valley Property. Join us for a day of hard work and satisfying results, right in Calgary’s backyard.

Just a short trip outside of Calgary, this property is home to moose, elk and a variety of bird species, including the iconic mountain bluebird. The Connop family, who originally owned the property, began ranching in the area in 1919, acquiring this piece of land in 1957 before donating it to the Nature Conservancy of Canada so it can be forever preserved through conservation. In total, the George Connop Ranches cover 2080 acres in the MD of Foothills, including Turner Valley, Millarville, Bragg Creek, and Okotoks. What you will be doing
With guidance from NCC staff, volunteers will work together to dismantle a corral system on the property. Wherever possible NCC works to remove any unneeded infrastructure from the landscape to reduce barriers and hazards to wildlife. Why you will love it
What could be a better way to spend a summer day than doing impactful conservation work in the beauty of your own environmental back yard? Enjoy a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains while volunteering less than an hour drive away from Calgary and its surrounding municipalities.Questions?
