About Southern Norfolk Sand Plain – Upper Big Creek Block

The Southern Norfolk Sand Plain Natural Area is within the Carolinian Canada Life Zone and supports many rare habitats, including Carolinian forest, Provincially Significant Wetlands, long stretches of ravines and floodplains, and globally rare coastal dunes and sand beaches. This zone provides habitat for 25% of Canada’s endangered species including the Hooded warbler, Cerulean warbler, Blanding’s turtle, Kentucky coffee tree and American badger.  The Upper Big Creek Block is primarily sand plain forest, with a portion of provincially significant wetlands connected to a Big Creek tributary.

What you will be doing

Why you will love it

This will be a great day spent outside with other keen naturalists, exploring one of the newest additions to NCC’s Upper Big Creek Block. The information we gather at this event will inform future conservation work on this property and surrounding areas.
