Wolf Survey on Kenauk Property
February 23rd, 2019, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Inventories and Monitoring
The Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Kenauk Institute are inviting cross-country skiers of all levels to participate in an Eastern Wolf Inventory Day on the Kenauk property. This property is located halfway between Ottawa and Montreal.
The survey objective is to look for signs of wolves (tracks, feces, urine, etc.) to confirm their presence and study their genetic background. This species is at risk in Canada. The samples collected will go a long way towards advancing our knowledge of this species. No need to be an expert! Training to recognize tracks and sample wolf feces will be offered.
If you’d like to carpool to the event, please go to : https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/3crhtd to add your car or join a ride going to the event.
Please email the event contact to join the waiting list.
The Kenauk property is a vast territory covered with forests, wetlands and lakes where a few rare plants species are present. Only one hour and 10 minutes from Ottawa and one hour and 30 minutes from Montreal, just north of Montebello, Kenauk is located at the southern limit of the Canadian Shield in a landscape dominated by loon lakes and deciduous forest. This is one of the last sectors in southern Quebec where extensive wilderness tracts remain relatively intact. What you will be doing
