Located just 6 km northwest of Elnora, this 62 hectare (155 ac.) project consists of various wetland, lakeshore and riparian habitats. Conserving breeding grounds for about 60 – 70 duck pairs per square mile, the area is popular among waterfowl like the Wilson’s snipe and American coot. This property is a key player in the region’s growing network of conserved lands, lying near several Environmentally Significant Areas, Provincial Parks and other NCC properties.
NCC acquired the Collins property with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
