Ruth Fleming was an avid birder and outdoor enthusiast, with the hopes that one day, her estate be conserved for nature. When she passed away in 2007, her 97 hectare (240 ac.) property north of Spruce Grove was donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) as part of her legacy. Today, NCC works in partnership with WILDNorth and Ducks Unlimited Canada to conserve the area’s wetland, forest and prairie habitats for deer, elk, great blue heron, barn swallow and great horned owl.
