This 184 hectare (454 ac.) nature reserve is a mosaic of landscapes, made up of alvar, forest, restored agricultural land and restored wetlands. Located on a shallow-soiled limestone outcrop that formed one of the original Pelee “islands”, this property supports many unique and rare species, including yellow-breasted chat, snapping turtle, blue racer and gray fox.
NCC acquired Florian with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
