This 196 hectare (486 ac.) project is located 30 km south west of Riding Mountain National Park, only slightly north of Battle Lake. Made up of rolling native prairie, bur oak woodlands, quaking aspen forests and extensive marshlands. The property supports a number of rare prairie plants, and provides habitat for waterfowl, forest birds and large mammals, including mountain bluebird, western grebe, American badger and the endangered monarch butterfly.
NCC acquired the Horod Moraine with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
