Minesing Wetlands (Barrie)

Just 20 km west of Barrie lies some of the largest and least disturbed wetlands in Southern Ontario. This rare marsh complex has been recognized by the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan as a key area for conservation. NCC and its partners have protected close to 10,000 acres (4,047 ha.) of habitat in the region, attracting species such as moose, loggerhead shrike and the endangered spotted turtle.

NCC acquired Minesing with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
