Rachel Agnes Hayes (White Sands)

Rachel Agnes Hayes is part of a network of conservation properties based in the Buffalo Lake Moraine. Made up of 1,146 acres (463 ha.) of forests, grasslands and wetlands, the area hosts important habitat for waterfowl such as the yellow rail and great blue heron. In October 2000, Alberta Culture and Community Spirit officially designated the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement at Boss Hill as a provincial historic resource.

NCC acquired the Rachel Agnes Hayes Conservation Lands with the assistance of the Government of Canada’s Natural Areas Conservation Program (NACP), a unique public-private partnership to accelerate the pace of land conservation across southern Canada.
