The Rice property is part of more than 32,000 acres (12,950 hectares) of land conserved by NCC in the Waterton Natural Area. This area of private conservation land provides a natural buffer for Waterton Lakes National Park and corridors for wildlife movement. Not only is the area prime habitat for large carniovres like grizzly bears, it is also incredibly rich in plant life. Several rare and unique animal, bird and plant species have been observed on the Rice property, including gray wolf, sandhill crane and blue camas.
